I Feel So Lonely: Where Can I Find New Friends?

I Feel So Lonely: Where Can I Find New Friends?

It can be rather difficult to feel melancholy and lonely. “Why am I so lonely?” or “What’s wrong with me?” are some questions it may raise. You could feel like something is missing from your life if you don’t have any pals or a significant other. But you’re not alone; many individuals have experienced similar feelings.

The Loneliness Cycle

Being alone might turn into a habit. If it sounds easier, you could start by remaining home, declining invitations, or avoiding social situations. This may eventually result in increased isolation and maybe sadness.

For instance, I spent much of my time alone and had few friends. I would back out of social engagements and even cut ties with my family. However, I was asked to go out for a drink one day by an art school acquaintance. Normally, I would decline, but on this occasion, I gave in.

He became one of my closest friends after we talked about how lonely we both felt in the end. I came to see how much my life had changed by being receptive to other people.

Modest Adjustments Can Be Beneficial

Small adjustments can occasionally have a large effect. I used to shy away from looking the store clerk in the eye. However, I soon struck up a conversation with her. She constantly smiles when she welcomes me and now she knows my name. Knowing that I’m being seen by someone else is comforting.

If you’re willing, you can meet people anyplace, or if you don’t feel like going out you can meet people online. I liked the way a homeless man thought, so I even became friends with him. He asked me how I was doing after noticing that I appeared worn out and frustrated one day. The first person who truly seemed to care about my feelings was him. We got to chat about life and society and started hanging out.

He even said how he hoped to see the ocean in the future. Every time I make a joke about him teaching me “the philosophy of the streets,” he laughs.

Managing the Alone Times

I still experience loneliness occasionally, even when I’m with people. It might be difficult to come home to an empty house, feel worn out from work, and question whether life is worth living. There were moments when I considered giving up since I had no one to return home to.

I used to feel unnoticeable as if I didn’t exist at all. However, things don’t have to be that way. The shift you desire originates from your perspective of the world and yourself.
